We’re excited to debut the all-new Wisconsin Public Television web series, Making Jazz. Follow 20 students from nine Wisconsin high schools as they work together as part of a prestigious Jazz ensemble at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Once a year, Director of Jazz Studies at UW-Madison Johannes Wallmann and Assistant Director Eric Siereveld hold auditions for high school students from south central Wisconsin to participate in a prestigious honors jazz band. Some students are seasoned participants, while others are auditioning for the first time, but they all have practiced for months for the chance to be a part of the unique and prestigious ensemble. Auditions are high pressure, nerve-wracking and rarely ever easy experiences. Watch and learn from the perspective of the students and judges what makes a good audition. For more information on the UW High School Honors Jazz Band visit www.wisconsinjazz.org.

New videos from Making Jazz web series will be released each Monday through Feb. 6.

Making Jazz is a collaboration with University of Wisconsin – Madison Mead Witter School of Music. This production is a part of the Young Performers Initiative, a partnership with the Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA).

Funding for making Jazz is provided in part by:
